GRI's Wildlife Rescue Programme aims to rescue, rehabilitate and release wild animals injured or displaced as a result of human activity. Its primary focus is with the Elephant Orphanage Project which has been supporting elephants since 2007. We have rescued 52 elephants to date and released a total of 7 elephants into the wild of these 2 are currently actively monitored. Our work has expanded to support other wildlife in distress to align with our partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and the needs of their veterinary unit.

Ongoing. Each orphan rescued is usually within care for approximately 10 years before old enough to be released. Our Elephant Orphanage Project is therefore a long term commitment to elephant rehabilitation. We envisage there will also be an ongoing need to support with other wildlife in distress.
