The SADC TFCA Network is hosting a series of seminars to present the work done by and in Transfrontier Conservation Areas in the region.

SADC M&E Framework validation workshop

This workshop was held with the representatives of TFCAs management for the Member States in Johannesburg on 5 and 6 September 2017. During these two days, the framework document was presented and amended.

SADC TFCAs M&E framework consultative workshop

During the SADC TFCA Network meeting held in Johannesburg from the 22 to the 24 March 2017, one day is dedicated to the workshop for the M&E framework project. The workshop is facilitated by the consultant, Dr. Clara Bocchino, with the support of Ms.

Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for SADC TFCAs Programme

The Southern African Development Community has, since 2013, established as Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programme to support the establishment of a fully “functional and integrated network of Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) where shared natural resources are sustainably co-managed and conserved to foster economic and social development, tourism, and regional integration for the benefit of those living within and around TFCAs and mankind at large” .

Inception Report and validation meeting

The consultant is requested to produce an Inception Report to be discussed with the SADC TFCA unit, which identifies the roadmap to the Consultancy.

SADC TFCAs and the IUCN World Parks Congress

From 12th to 19th of November, the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014 - the global forum on protected areas - took place in Sydney with over 6,000 experts participating at this event from over 170 countries. Over 100 presentations, workshops and side events related to Southern African protected areas, regional challenges and best-practice on management of nature conservation were held as well as hosted by more than 100 participants coming from the Southern African region.

Mobile cross-border TFCA trainings

In 2014 the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) implemented one-week cross-border trainings in each of the following six (6) TFCAs: GLTP, Lubombo,Mapungubwe,Nyika, Maloti-D’berg and Chimanimani.

Development of Desert Kayak Trails for ARTP

The objective of the intervention is to create the Desert Kayak Trail, a fully catered 4 day canoe trip along the Orange river in Ai-Ais-Richterveld TP.

Climate Change Adaptation Trainings for SADC TFCAs

A regional training on Climate Change Adaptation for SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) was developed and implemented by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) and Rhodes University between August 2013 and June 2014. The Government of Germany provided funds in excess of Euro 260,000 to strengthen the capacity of 53 TFCA staff and stakeholders from across the SADC region (18 SADC TFCAs) to deal with climate change, integrate climate change adaptation into the TFCA management plans and engage with communities about climate change. 

Cross-Border Fire Management in Angola/Namibia

The goal of this short-term project is to develop and implement an Integrated Trans-frontier Community-Based Fire Management Strategy for Liuana Partial Reserve in Angola and Bwabwata National Park in Namibia. The strategy will build upon the lessons learned from Namibia’s fire management work in Zambezi Region, and will be designed to complement the environment, community, land use, capacity and available resources of the area.
