The Zimbabwe Climate Change Coalition (ZCCC) was founded in 2011 as a regional network of civil society organizations, grassroots movements, researchers, and activists dedicated to addressing the impacts of climate change in Zimbabwe. The coalition emerged in response to the growing urgency of climate change, which disproportionately affects Zimbabwe due to its vulnerability to droughts, floods, and other extreme weather events. It is committed at driving transformative change in Zimbabwe by championing the integration of environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles, while respecting and leveraging the country's rich cultural heritage and traditional knowledge
ZCCC distinguishes itself by focusing on the intersection of climate change adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), youth and women empowerment, and biodiversity conservation and its ability to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge, modern science, and policy, ensuring that climate solutions are locally relevant, equitable, and scalable. It leverages regional partnerships and local expertise to create context-specific solutions that address the unique vulnerabilities in Zimbabwe. By combining Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), cutting-edge research, and community-driven solutions, the coalition will address the specific climate challenges in Zimbabwe, such as droughts, floods, environmental degradation, food systems transformation and seed sovereignty and biodiversity loss, etc. ZCCC also prioritize movement building and institutional strengthening, climate justice, and addressing loss and damage to build resilience and support affected communities.
Objectives
I. Build and strengthen partnerships with government, communities, civil society, development partners research and learning institutions, the media fraternity and the private sector to scale up climate-resilience programs collectively.
II. To establish a dynamic platform for participatory action research and innovation, information and knowledge management that values and integrates scientific data with traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), ensuring that solutions are locally relevant, culturally appropriate, and effectively shared to inform policy and practice at all levels.
III. Enhance and facilitate action for climate empowerment, knowledge-sharing and cross-sectorial collaborations among Zimbabwe stakeholders to accelerate the transition towards sustainable and climate-resilient practices in key economic sectors, such as agriculture, energy, and industry, etc.
IV. Amplify the voices of Zimbabwean communities in the global climate negotiations and policy frameworks, ensuring that the country's unique challenges, priorities, and traditional knowledge are duly represented and addressed.
