Meet the new SADC Programme Officer: Policy & Market Development – Marygoreth Pantaleo Mushi

Presently the SADC Programme Officer – Policy & Market Development in the FANR Directorate, Ms Mushi is a tourism and natural resources specialist with over 14 years of experience in the tourism public service, backed by an MSc in Natural Resources Assessment and Management, University of Dar es Salaam, and a BA in Cultural Anthropology and Tourism, Tumaini University, Tanzania. Ms. Mushi also received training in diplomacy and public relations.

She worked at the Tanzania Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism for thirteen years, rising to become Principal Tourism Officer. Her portfolios included the development of tourism policies, programmes, and activities, licencing establishments and quality control.

In official duties, She participated in various programmes among other, including Secretary to the National Task Force in Developing an International Airport near Serengeti National Park; Delivered training to tourism stakeholders on Standard Operating  Procedure for the management of COVID-19 in the Tourism Business Operations - SOPs and a Comprehensive Tourism Recovery and Sustainability Planning; Inventory of Accommodation Facilities in Tanzania for subsequent grading and classification under the EAC Protocol on Tourism and Wildlife; Tourism Marketing Events Development and Management and participated in other Tourism Trade Fair such as the INDABA; Worked to develop a Strategy for development of Beach tourism in Tanzania in collaboration with the Export Processing Zone Authority – EPZA; Participated in the National Research on the Tanzania’s readiness to Implement Single Tourists’ Visa under EAC and SADC (2012); Prepared and promoted Tourism Investment Opportunities and Investment Guidelines of Tanzania (2017-2018) and represented Tanzania in the IORA Technical meeting, Durban, (2019). She also served as Executive Assistant to Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (2013 - 2014) and Permanent Secretary of the same Ministry (2020 - 2021).

Ms Mushi brings to SADC rich knowledge in tourism, training in diplomacy and experience in regional integration matters in the area of tourism from the East African setting and looks forward to consolidating the SADC’s tourism position globally to benefit the Member States and their people.
