Mobile cross-border TFCA trainings

In 2014 the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) implemented one-week cross-border trainings in each of the following six (6) TFCAs: GLTP, Lubombo,Mapungubwe,Nyika, Maloti-D’berg and Chimanimani.

The trainings were demand-driven in that each training brought together a group of 10 to 12 stakeholders from different sectors who worked on a cross-border topic that was defined by them. Three (3) of the trainings were centred around cross-border law enforcement, and three (3) around cross-border CBNRM. All courses also focussed on improving cross-border collaboration and channels of communication.

The trainings turned out to be very successful in that they created a forum for stakeholders to work on commonly identified issues of concern. Some direct results were achieved. Moreover trust was built and working relations improved, thereby laying a foundation for ongoing cross-border engagement.

The trainings were funded by the German Government through the German International Cooperation (GIZ) to the amount of 930,000 ZAR.
