Strengthening MPA management in Rufiji, Mafia, Kilwa Districts of Tanzania

Objectives: 
Aim: improve management of the existing PAs & buffer zones & create a UNESCO Man & Biosphere Reserve which integrates all different areas & provides a framework for conservation, spatial planning & sustainable social development. Activities will include use of mobile phone apps to monitor catches & improve market access for fishers; equipping marine park for co-surveillance with local communities; community led mangrove restoration; support of local entrepreneurs. Work areas: i) MPA governance; ii) sustainable livelihoods; iii) habitat conservation & restoration; iv) species conservation /sustainable fisheries.

Project will help fishers & mangrove users to organise themselves & manage their natural resources.
